Salt - Poster Analysis

This film poster for ‘Salt’ shows Angelina Jolie looking directly into the viewers eyes making direct contact with the audience 'you', this can give a cold feeling to the viewers, which could enhance this characters possible cold heart and blunt personality which is the personality I'm sensing from this film poster.
The main image of the poster is of a well-known actress (Angelina Jolie), so in this case she’s usedas the USP (unique selling point) of the film. The image is striking as it’s a close up shot of the actresses face, creating a sense of curiosity and discomfort. This is the only image on the poster which draws all the attention to the actor and highlights her, and suggests she has a vital role in the film. The main picture also shows a girl emerging from a black background, this can show signs this character could be mysterious or dark. The colour black is commonly associated with elegancy, death and evil. The link this has to the poster is the fact that the character has elegant
The colours used in the background of the poster convey a dark and give it a mysterious mood, this is complemented by the main image and the slogan 'WHO IS SALT'. This forms questions in the audiences mind and acts a persuasive device to make them want to find out more about the film, which will lead to them watching the film.
The month that the film is due to be released is displayed at the bottom of the poster as well the films website, providing further key information to the audience.
Repetition is used in the title of the film as a persuasive device to attract the audience and give them an incentive to watch the film. There is variation of the same font used in two colours which allows the title to stand out against the black background.
