The Evil Dead - Poster Analysis

http://www.screamhorrormag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/evil-dead.jpg

This film poster ‘The Evil Dead’ shows a struggling girl, pulling herself from the ground. Whilst a hand is gripping her around the neck showing actions of her being pulled into the earth and dragged under. This gives connotations of her trying to escape somewhere; perhaps hell as hell is often portrayed to us as being underground.
The colour scheme has cold damp colours which gives off a feeling of fear in this picture, along with very cold emotions which the audience will feel from the overall colour. Along with the image of the girl being pulled under this can give her a sense of being trapped. Along with the colour scheme the font is bold with quirky corners on each letter which gives it a mysterious look, which again goes along with the fact it’s a horror film. The font is also eye catching as its white text against a dark background which really stands out and is also easy for people to read in a short amount of time, which is good if this poster is on a billboard.
The slogan which is given at the top of the poster claims it’s ‘The most ferociously original horror film of the year’, this would grab any fan of horror films attention due to the descriptive language, plus claiming its one of the best horror films of the year. The title of the film ‘The Evil Dead’ also would claim horror film fans attention as its short and precise, as evil and dead connotations are common characteristics of successful horror films.

The fact that the film poster has been drawn or sketched with a very old style in tone rather than photographed; this suggests the film will be set a few years ago, as it hold a very 80's looking styled
