Poster Planning
Here are 3 poster mock ups which we created as we started to plan for creating our poster, there are many different layouts which ewe tested with and we didn't feel as though the three above mock ups we created didn't fit well with out selected image, so we went ahead and created ours without using any of these mock ups layouts.
We tested a variety different layouts and fonts for our poster and we finally concluded with our Final Poster (which can be seen below). With the font we selected (Avenir Font) we trial and errors many times to find the font which we felt as though went the best with our poster and fitted best with the image we selected for our final poster. This Avenir font that we found fitted well with the mood we tried to convey with our poster. The font is subtle however, we still think it is very powerful however thin and subtle it remains.

Character Profiles
Matt - Matt will be played by 16 year old actor Max Potter. I want him to appear quite immature compared to the other characters so I have cast a younger actor. I want to gain the impression that Max is a teenager in a 'purgatory' sense, by that I mean he is in a period of his life in between school and the world of university and work. This is a feeling that me and a lot of my peers share, not knowing what they really want to do so they stick to partying and trying to forget their worries and anxieties through alcohol and other substances. This leads to the scene where he decides to try ecstasy and also the scenes of him leaving the party. I want his expression to show he is reflecting on where his life is going thus leading to him getting into his brother's bed as it is the only place he feels truly safe. Moreover I will direct him to speak at a very fast speed after taking the pill to show the effects of the drug and also his increased confidence.
Simon - Simon will be played by 18 year old actor Joe Potter. I already know he has an excellent on screen relationship with Max Potter, also their relationship will look realistic as they are brothers in real life. I wanted Simon to be a couple of years older than Matt, he is a more mature and confident character but still looks after his brother. This is shown by him only wanting him to take half the pill and also the penultimate scene at the end where he invites him under the covers with him like a child. I think out of everything I get across through the character I want Simon's priority in the film to make his brother happy and safe as he knows his vulnerable nature more than anyone. I will show this through various close ups of his concerned facial expression and plenty of diegetic speech with a concerned tone of voice, especially in the train scene where Matt shows him the pill. There will be a strong contrast in Matt's confident, relaxed nature and Simon's worry.
Smally - Smally will be played by my friend Daniel Alderman who is 18. Smally is a confident 'blokey' character. I will assure this through his costume, a t-shirt and jacket and his voice. I will direct this character to seem over confident and slightly arrogant particularly through his voice and facial expression and also his gesture with Matt.
Charlie - Charlie will be played by 17 year old actress Esme Graham. I want Charlie to be a more down to earth character than the rest of the party goers which is appropriate for the conversation she has with Matt discussing his feelings for Lucy. I will direct Esme to have a soft tone of voice and seem caring about Matt's feelings through her facial expression and consistent eye contact.
Lucy - Lucy will be played by 17 year old actress Maria North. I want Lucy to be a flirtatious character which in turn draws Matt in. I want Lucy to seem like she's interested in Matt by flirtatious facial expression and laughter. Moreover, I want Lucy to damage Matt's feelings which prompts the scene where he needs his Brother's assurance. I will do this by showing her flirting with Smally right in front of Matt, thus prompting him to leave the party.

Change of Ideas
During the start of producing our first idea of our short film (The Egg) the further we researched into that genre made both me and my partner (Jared Morgan) realise we would prefer to produce a film which younger audiences, such as our peers would be able to relate to in an easier fashion.
Location - Night Train
I will be using a night train interior for the exchange between Matt and Simon discussing the party and Matt using drugs. I wish to calm the effects of the opening and create a very personal, intimate scene between the two brothers. I will thus use minimal sound and background noise along with steady camera work and slow paced editing. Moreover, the brothers will be positioned next to each other with little background movement, I want the scene to be framed solely around them to allow full focus on their conversation and expression. The dim, artificial lighting will also add to this sense of intimacy.
